The Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and the Tema Regional Police Command are working together and planning strategies to guarantee security for the Tema Port’s 24-hour operations.

Because of this, Brigadier General Paul Seidu Tanye-Kulono, the Director General of the GPHA, received a courtesy call from Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Barnabas Nambont Nasumong, the Tema Regional Police Commander, in order to strengthen cooperation on port security.

While Dr. Kingsley Antwi-Boasiako, the General Manager of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, and Mr. David Songotu, the General Manager of Risk, attended the meeting with the GPHA Director General, the police commander was accompanied by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Boakye, the staff officer of the Tema Regional Police Command.

Enhancing coordination between GPHA security and the Ghana Police Service was the main goal of the tour in order to protect people and property in the port area.

According to the Tema Regional Police Commander, more police presence was required to deter crime and uphold peace and order in light of the recently implemented round-the-clock port services, which are anticipated to boost port activity.

In order to prevent any criminal attempts that might occur as a result of the increased port traffic and extended operating hours, DCOP Nasumong revealed that the Police Service had improved police visibility and response systems across the port enclave and its adjacent areas.

On his part, Brigadier General Tanye-Kulono praised the Tema Regional Police Command’s and GPHA’s security team’s ongoing collaboration as well as the police’s initiative in keeping a noticeable presence at the port.

He reiterated GPHA’s dedication to collaborating closely with law enforcement to offer all port users a safe and secure business environment.
