Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, two New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer candidates, carried their campaigns to Ghana’s Parliament House on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at a meeting of the Majority caucus.
The former general secretary reportedly gave a much more presidential performance, presenting his vision for a NEW DAWN and stressing that the party needs a clear break from the status system, according to sources within the NPP Parliamentary caucus.
Ing Kwabena Agyepong informed the MPs that in order to revitalize its base and rekindle the requisite zeal that will excite the grassroots to deliver the elusive third straight victory in 2024, the party needs a new impetus guided by a strong leader.
However, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, who arrived an hour later to address the same group, was unimpressive and stuttering the entire time. He simply informed the MPs of his plan to run for the party’s flagbearership without making any noteworthy policy recommendations, which left many people disappointed.
The former General Secretary, according to some insiders, was superior than the vice president at the time in terms of vision, assurance, and delivery.
Snippets from the MPs who were present at the meeting indicate that Ing Agyepong’s delivery was viewed as being far more focused and practical. It appears that this has led to uncertainty and misunderstanding among Dr. Bawumia’s allies within the legislative caucus.
