17 gold bars worth $1.7 million have been given to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC).
At the Paga Border Post, police from the Narcotics Control Commission’s Upper East Command confiscated the gold bars from two Burkinabe citizens who were trying to smuggle them out of the nation.
The two citizens are also accused of gold offenses, including dealing in and transporting gold.
The management of GoldBod received assurances from Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, the Minister for the Interior, that the Ministry will continue to support and back GoldBod’s efforts to manage Ghana’s gold resources.

Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of GoldBod, thanked the Director-General of NACOC for the smooth transition and urged more cooperation and support from other security authorities so they can continue to be successful.
Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, the Director General of NACOC, Mrs. Doreen Annan, the Chief Director of the Ministry, and other senior officials from GoldBod and NACOC attended the handover event.
