The Weija Leprosarium’s caretaker and creator of the Lepers Aid Committee, Father Andrew Campbell, is on a working visit to Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, to discuss potential areas of cooperation in aiding vulnerable populations.

The Lepers Aid Committee has supported the welfare of leprosy patients and other underprivileged populations for many years by offering housing, medical care, rehabilitation, and assistance with social reintegration.

The Ministry’s mission to advance social inclusion, defend the rights of the weak, and improve their quality of life is closely aligned with Father Campbell’s work.

Father Campbell urged greater cooperation throughout the discussion to guarantee that people with impairments receive quality care.

He further argued that in order to provide social protection to a larger range of underprivileged people, LEAP benefits should be expanded to include additional eligible prisoners.

The Minister’s personal concern, the predicament of street children, was also discussed.

Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, the Honorable Minister, emphasized continued partnerships with pertinent organizations to tackle the underlying issues and offer sustainable remedies.

The Minister promised that practical measures will be taken to guarantee that all eligible individuals are enrolled in the program in response to the LEAP expansion request.

She went on to say that the Social Protection Bill, which Parliament recently passed and is currently awaiting presidential assent, will further fortify the legislative framework to safeguard disadvantaged populations and give programs like LEAP a more stable foundation.
