Former Trade and Industry Minister Kobina Tahiru Hammond, often known as K.T. Hammond, filed an electoral petition against Godwin Animli Dorgbadzi Dorani’s victory in the Adansi Asokwa parliamentary election, but it was dismissed by the High Court in Obuasi, Ashanti Region.
Judge Kwabena Twumasi declared the case dismissed and fined Mr. Hammond Gh¢60,000 in a decision on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, calling the petition a waste of the court’s time.
Following the decision, Richard Andy, Mr. Dorani’s attorney, stated that the petition was without substance and that he was relieved that the issue had been settled.
He pointed out that the choice would enable the MP to focus entirely on his parliamentary responsibilities.
After serving as an MP for more than 20 years, K.T. Hammond lost his seat in the parliamentary elections of 2024. Mr. Dorani defeated him by a margin of 954 votes.
Mr. Hammond received 13,275 votes, while the candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) received 14,229 votes.
Disappointed with the ruling, the former Minister challenged it in a petition filed on January 15, 2025, at the Obuasi High Court.
Nevertheless, the lawsuit was dismissed since he failed to show up for court three times.
