The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has detained Ghanaian dancehall musician Shatta Wale, whose real name is Charles Nii Armah Mensah Jr., in connection with a purported inquiry into his tax liabilities.
In a statement posted on X.com on Tuesday, August 20, publicist Sammy Baah Flex acknowledged the development on behalf of his management, connecting the matter to the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini that prompted authorities’ attention.
The message said, “This follows an inquiry related to tax obligations on the purchase of a yellow Lamborghini vehicle.”
Shatta Wale reportedly voluntarily showed up at EOCO’s Accra offices to help with the investigation, escorted by his attorney Cephas Biyuo.
Fans were reassured by his management that everything is under control.
“We want to assure all fans and the general public that his legal team is fully engaged and actively working with the authorities to resolve this matter. They are taking all necessary steps to secure his release at the earliest opportunity.”
