This year’s WOMBA Accra Street Art Festival is a crucial venue for promoting Ga culture, youth empowerment, community pride, and the liveliness of the city, according to Accra Mayor Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, who has urged the public to fully participate.

At the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) City Hall, the festival’s third edition was launched. The mayor emphasized that he fully supports the idea and that it will assist divert youth from harmful influences like drug usage to worthwhile cultural and social pursuits.

He clarified that pride, identity, and empowerment were at the core of WOMBA’s philosophy and were crucial to creating a more promising future for Ga youth.

Mr. Ntiamoah Alex, the Festival Coordinator, gave an overview of the week-long schedule, which includes a “Night of Light” on Thursday and a community cleanup on Wednesday, August 20.

Along with street exhibitions, a carnival, and health events like blood donation, health screening, and medical assistance for roughly 4,000 participants, he said the High Street would be closed on Friday night for a storytelling session at Bannerman Road in Akoto Lante, complete with music and cultural displays.

Nuumo Ayitey Komla III, the traditional leader, thanked everyone for the festival’s continued existence and said that this year’s was expected to be especially special because of the Mayor’s backing.
