Former President John Dramani Mahama has received praise from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ga-Dangme Caucus for his decision to form a commission to look into the issue of stolen public lands.

The previous President’s commitment on the subject is a welcome one, according to the Caucus.

Following his victory in the NDC presidential primaries, Mr. John Mahama announced during his acceptance speech that he intended to form a commission to look into the complex problem of state land stealing and make suitable recommendations, with a focus on Dangme state lands.

The Dangme Caucus bemoaned the erosion of the Ga Dangme people’s inalienable land ownership rights throughout the years as a result of the government’s forced acquisition and expropriation of lands in the Greater Accra Region.

“Even more depressing and perplexing is the horrible spectacle of NPP government officials, along with their corresponding supporters and party apparatchiks, busy snatching and looting Ga State lands with careless abundance.”

The situation was regarded as “a grievous threat to our very survival as Ga-Dangme indigenes” and “a gross betrayal of stewardship.”

It emphasized that, in light of this, Mr. Mahama’s resolve to address the matter completely struck the correct note and chimed with our collective desire for justice.

“We wholeheartedly commend our Presidential Flagbearer for this and assure him of our unwavering support, come the 2024 general elections, to see the full realization of this initiative,” the statement continued.
