Hanan Abdul-Wahab Aludiba, the former CEO of the National Food and Buffer Stock Company (NAFCO), has been freed from the Economic and Organised Crime Office’s (EOCO) custody.

According to people familiar with the situation, Mr. Abdul-Wahab was unconditionally released on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at around 8:00 p.m.

His release comes after EOCO re-arrested him at the Accra International Airport late on Saturday, July 4, 2026, on suspicion of trying to utilise fraudulent methods to access his Republic Bank account that had been frozen prior to his departure for the United Kingdom.

The Attorney-General’s Office and his solicitors got into a new court battle after the most recent arrest, with concerns raised about the reason for his incarceration.

The Attorney-General would go back to the High Court in Accra to request a review of the ruling that permitted Mr Abdul-Wahab to leave, according to Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, Deputy Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.

Allegations of financial impropriety related to his time as CEO of NAFCO have put Mr Abdul-Wahab at the center of a legal dispute.

Along with other accused individuals, he and his wife, Faiza Seidu Wuni, were first charged with financial violations related to the state-owned enterprise.

The defendants were later discharged by the court after the Attorney-General’s Office dismissed the charges against them after claiming that new evidence had surfaced.

However, Mr. Abdul-Wahab and his wife were later arrested again by EOCO, which sparked debate about the action’s legality and protocol.

Since then, the former head of NAFCO has insisted on his innocence, and his attorneys have contested some parts of the state’s handling of the case.

EOCO has defended its conduct, claiming that due process was followed and the rearrest was legal.

Former NAFCO CEO and former Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame’s legal team, on the other hand, insists that his client is innocent of the accusations made against him by the Attorney General’s Office, characterising them as deceptive and an effort to defend what he described as Abdul-Wahab’s illegal arrest at the Accra International Airport on July 4.

He contended that no application had been submitted to review the High Court judgement that allowed Abdul-Wahab to travel prior to his detention, despite the Attorney-General’s assertions to the contrary.
