The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has inducted the newly appointed Vice Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Christian Agyare, as Chair of the University’s Technology and Consultancy Centre.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu congratulated Prof. Agyare on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to provide strong leadership and contribute to the advancement of KNUST education, research, innovation and technology development.
The Education Minister also assured KNUST of the government’s continued support through the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) to facilitate the completion of the University’s Teaching Hospital. The facility is expected to enhance medical education and practical training, while also providing quality healthcare services to residents and communities within the area.
Hon. Iddrisu encouraged KNUST to further strengthen its programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), particularly as Ghana continues to promote science education, technological innovation and skills development. He also called on the University to collaborate with hostel operators to increase access to affordable student accommodation.
Prof. Christian Agyare, in response, assured the Ministry of Education of his commitment to advancing KNUST’s academic and institutional mandate. He noted that the university is already increasing investment in science, research, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies.
The KNUST Vice Chancellor further pledged to deepen engagement with key stakeholders and continue discussions with private hostel owners to help provide affordable accommodation for students.
The latest developments are expected to support KNUST’s role as a leading institution for higher education, scientific research, technology innovation and skills development in Ghana.
