Black Stars players would each receive $100,000 as an appearance fee for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to Minister for Sports Kofi Adams. This payment schedule has not changed in recent years.
The minister revealed in an interview with TV3 that, despite prior variations in player bonuses across several World Cup competitions, the government had chosen not to change the appearance price.
“It varies, since 2006, I think they were given $50,000 or $80,000 for appearance. It went up to $120,000 at a point, and it came back to $100,000. It has been pegged at that $100,000 for quite some time. This year it’s $100,000, we haven’t changed it,” Kofi Adams said.
The announcement comes with the Black Stars stepping up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The squad will be competing in football’s biggest competition for the fifth time, having previously done so in 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2022.
In Ghana, there has frequently been public discussion about player appearance fees and bonuses. In response, the FA and the government have worked to improve openness in discussions involving the national team and simplify bonus schemes.
The Sports Minister claims that keeping the current appearance fee in place demonstrates the government’s dedication to compensating athletes while guaranteeing uniformity in the administration of national team funds.
The United States, Canada, and Mexico will host the 48-team FIFA World Cup, which Black Stars have qualified for.
The Black Stars’ quarterfinal appearance at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa stands as the nation’s best-ever performance at the championship, and they continue to be among Africa’s most successful competitors.
It is anticipated that the confirmation of the appearance fee would shed light on a crucial matter that is frequently debated before to significant international contests.
