A laborer suspected of breaking into two separate offices in East Legon, Accra, has been remanded into police custody by an Adentan Circuit Court.

According to reports, Richard Bajian broke into the Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED) Ghana office and stole four laptop computers, a Samsung smartphone, and four laptop chargers, totaling GH¢25,300.

Additionally, the accused allegedly broke into Millenium Promise Alliance’s office and damaged a glass door worth GH¢1,450.

Bajian, 23, entered a not guilty plea after being charged with two counts of unlawful entrance, two charges of inflicting unlawful damage, and two counts of theft.

The court denied Bajian’s request for bail and directed the prosecution to provide it with a copy of the Madina District Court case, which revealed the accused’s conviction and seven-month jail sentence for a related offense.

Sedinam Awo Balokah, the court’s presider, gave the prosecution instructions to submit their disclosures and provide more documents to defense counsel.

The prosecution labeled the accused as a “criminal” and stated that he had been found guilty and punished on a similar offense by a Madina Court, which led to the court order.

The defense attorney, Mr. Yaw Dankwah, disputed the prosecution’s allegation that the defendant was a felon.

The date of the adjournment of the matter is November 20, 2023.

The first complaint is Barbara Wudah, an administrator of the Millennium Promise Alliance, and the second is Nathaniel Acckon, an IT officer of CAMFED Ghana, according to the prosecution, which is headed by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.

It stated that Baijan lives in Ayigbe Town, Shiashie, and works as a laborer.

The prosecution claims that on October 28, 2023, at approximately 1500 hours, Baijan broke through Millenium Promise Alliance’s wall and entered the building with the intention of stealing.

The prosecution claims that Baijan used a cutlass to smash through the main glass door and access the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) camera room. Once inside, he severed the links in order to avoid being recognized.

But earlier, when he entered the building, the camera had captured him on camera.

Baijan broke into the CCTV room, the prosecution informed the court, although he did not take anything.

According to the prosecution, Bajian entered CAMFED Ghana’s office, which was close to the Millennium Promise Alliance, the same day at around 1530 hours.

The prosecution at the CAMFED Ghana Office said that Bajian broke a glass door where a server was stationed by forcing open the kitchen security door with a pair of scissors.

According to the prosecution, Baijan broke into the room, stealing four computers, four computer chargers, and a Samsung smartphone.

After gathering the goods into a bag pack, Baijan scaled a ladder to enter an incomplete structure.

The prosecution claimed that a witness in the case named David Tetteh saw Baijan and called for help.

It claimed that once Baijan took off, other witnesses gave him a fierce chase.

After being detained, Baijan turned himself in and gave the stolen goods to a patrol team of the Ghana Police Service.

As per the prosecution, Baijan was a “known criminal who committed a similar offence on April 13, 2023. The accused was tried by the District Court at Madina and given a sentence of seven months imprisonment.”

Ms. Susana Nyakotey served as the court’s chair.
