German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Landshöft met with Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu earlier yesterday to discuss ways to improve German language instruction in Ghana.

Finding holes in the current German language ecology and investigating strategies to increase access at all educational levels were the main goals of the workshop.

The Ambassador proposed expanding German language programs beyond institutions such as the University of Education, Winneba, particularly into Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, as well as creating internship opportunities in German institutions to provide students with practical experience.

The German Embassy’s ongoing cooperation with the Ministry was praised by the Minister, who also applauded the initiative.

He stated that in order to direct the relationship moving forward, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) must be created and signed.

The Ghana postsecondary Education Commission is anticipated to play a significant role in aiding implementation at the postsecondary level, he added, reiterating the government’s commitment to increasing the teaching of international languages at the basic, secondary, and tertiary levels.
