Two suspects connected to a recent armed attack on a foreign national and a different plot targeting a local distribution company were apprehended by the Ashanti South Regional Police Intelligence Directorate, which also stopped a planned robbery operation in Obuasi.

Following what police characterised as reliable information about an upcoming heist in the mining town, the suspects, identified as Iddrisu Fuseini, alias “Iddi,” and Shaibu Mohammed, also known as “SM” or “Cicinati,” were apprehended in separate intelligence-led operations.

Fuseini was apprehended on April 16, 2026, at his hideout in Bedieso, Obuasi, after police acted on information regarding an armed gang’s planned attack, according to a statement released by the Ghana Police Service.

He allegedly admitted during questioning that he was a member of a six-person group that robbed an Indian national’s home in New Baakoyeden on April 12.

During the operation, the gang allegedly stole GH¢150,000.

According to police investigations, the incident was allegedly made possible by an insider, a victim’s employee known only as Ibrahim, who allegedly told the gang that his employer stored large amounts of money at home.

The second suspect, Mohammed, was apprehended on April 20 in Gausu, also in Obuasi, as a result of additional intelligence work.

He allegedly acknowledged his role in the first robbery’s preparation and revealed that the group had prearranged plans to launch another assault on a distribution facility nearby to the Mawuli Hotel.

Both suspects are currently on trial before the Obuasi Circuit Court in relation to a different robbery case totalling GH¢600,000, according to the police statement, which suggests a pattern of organised crime.

Khalifa, Edward, Prof, Waddle, Ebbe, and the purported informant, Ibrahim, are among the other syndicate members for whom a manhunt has been initiated.

According to police, efforts are also being made to recover firearms that are thought to be in the gang’s hands, such as a locally made pistol and a pump-action gun.

In order to reduce violent crime in Obuasi and elsewhere, the Service has promised the public that it will step up intelligence-led operations.
