Training for the first 10,000 national service members chosen for the new military orientation program’s initial phase will start on August 31, 2025.

Beginning in June 2025, the National Service Authority (NSA) offered a six-week optional basic military training program.

Among recent graduates, it is a component of initiatives to foster discipline, civic duty, and patriotism.

The first announcement of the military program was made in June 2025.

The initiative is being carried out in accordance with the National Service Act, 2024 (Act 1119), and it falls within the policy direction of the new national service strategy, according to George Opare Addo, Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment, who spoke at a press briefing on Monday, August 4, titled “Government Accountability Series.”

He stated that the Ghana Armed Forces and the NSA were collaborating to provide the training.

“This policy is not about the militarisation of service personnel; it is about leadership, resilience, and civic responsibility,” Mr. Opare Addo said.

Ten thousand employees will be trained in two cohorts.

In the years that follow, it is anticipated that the military program will grow to 100,000.

Service placements will not be impacted by involvement in the military program, according to the NSA.

Before being paired with their respective user agencies, those chosen for the pilot will finish their training.

Following the completion of the course, final postings will occur.

The online enrollment process, which launched on June 17 and ended on July 1, 2025, featured registration for the optional instruction.
