President John Dramani Mahama has promised to enhance pensions for retired workers.
Speaking at the Republic Day Senior Citizens’ Luncheon in Accra, the president stated that his administration is dedicated to reviving the economy while guaranteeing a respectable quality of living for pensioners who have contributed to the growth of the country.
“I pledge to our senior citizens that as the economy improves, we will improve not only wages and salaries for the active working population but also improve pensions for those who have sacrificed tirelessly for our dear nation, Ghana,” he declared.
According to President Mahama, the government’s 24-Hour Economy and Accelerated Export Development Programme, which aims to boost production, generate jobs, and raise exports, is setting the groundwork for long-term economic success.
“We’re investing in skills, technology, manufacturing and value addition because we believe that Ghana must become a nation that produces more, exports more and creates prosperity for all,” he said.
He stated that re-establishing economic stability is still a top goal and that both employees and retirees should benefit from the rebound.
The president emphasised that building a successful and resilient society is the most meaningful way to honour older citizens’ efforts, saying that yearly festivities are not enough.
Improvements in healthcare, education, agriculture, democratic governance, and the responsible use of public resources are also top priorities for the government, he continued.
President Mahama reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of senior citizens, stating that improved living conditions for those who have served the nation should follow economic recovery.
