The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) will soon open new campuses in the Volta Region, according to President John Dramani Mahama, in an effort to increase healthcare education and employment.
He clarified that the project is a part of the endeavor to create more skilled medical professionals and to provide Ghanaian youngsters with international career prospects.
This information was given by President Mahama at a meeting with the Volta Region House of Chiefs at Flagstaff House.
He said the government was trying to restart the university’s growth after it had been delayed for a few years.
“The new sites will assist in satisfying the increasing demand for healthcare services both domestically and internationally,” he said.
He added that nations like Barbados and the Bahamas have already expressed interest in employing Ghanaian physicians and nurses, saying, “This will allow us to train more health professionals who can take advantage of international opportunities.”
He added that the expansion is a component of a broader strategy to enhance the region’s human resources and fortify its contribution to national growth.
Togbe Tepre Hodo IV, president of the Volta Region House of Chiefs, praised the emphasis on health and education and called the news opportune.
He promised the administration that the House of Chiefs would back the project and make it a success.
Both sides pledged to continue working together for the region’s development, as the visit touched on a number of other regional objectives, such as chieftaincy, education, infrastructure, and agriculture.
