Israel Nana Kwadwo Akofena Safo seemed to have been given a seat during the funeral of his late father, Apostle Dr. Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
The funeral plans made by his sister, former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, have been challenged by Akofena Safo.
Despite Akofena Safo’s objections and a High Court injunction prohibiting the burial, the Kristo Asafo founder’s funeral rites started on Thursday, July 30.
Black Star Square in Accra hosted the second day of the burial, while the Apostle Kwadwo Safo Centre in Gomoa Mpota, Central Region, hosted the first.
Apostle Safo’s personal physician, Dr. Isaac Ofori Tieku, told Accra FM that his remains was covertly transported to Gomoa Mpota before to the funeral.
This came when a video of an unmarked Toyota Hilux entering the funeral grounds with what seemed to be a casket wrapped in fabric went viral.
Tension has been a defining feature of the sibling divide. Adwoa Safo is still recuperating from bullet wounds she received when she went to Akofena’s Kwabenya residence to witness his coronation as the new chief of the Safo and Kristo Asafo families.
When asked on Wednesday if she would personally go invite her brother to the burial, Adwoa Safo responded that she would not go because she was afraid for her life.
The precise location where Akofena Safo’s name was spotted on a reserved seat has not been verified.
Adwoa Safo was observed sitting next to an empty chair with the words “Israel Kwadwo Safo Akofena” written on a white piece of paper on the backrest.
Although Adwoa Safo hasn’t publicly explained the act, the reserved seat would indicate an effort at reconciliation. At the time of publication, Akofena Safo had not been spotted at the burial.
