Dr. Promise Sefogah, a gynaecologist and obstetrician specialist, has cautioned that environmental exposures, lifestyle choices, and alcohol use have a substantial impact on male fertility.
Dr. Sefogah stated that alcohol poses a serious risk to male reproductive health while speaking on JoyFm’s Super Morning Show.
“Alcohol is an enemy to your fertility as a man. Because alcohol damages the sperm,” he stated.
“It damages to the point of affecting how normal the sperm is formed. It affects how the sperm moves. It affects the concentration of the sperm. And also affects the DNA of the sperm. We call it DNA fragmentation. So it poses so much risk to your fertility function.” he added to describe the severity of the harm.
He cautioned that drinking alcohol can lower testosterone levels, which could affect general health and sexual performance.
One of the most dangerous consequences of long-term alcohol consumption, according to Dr. Sefogah, is a decrease in testosterone, a male hormone necessary for erections, muscle growth, and sexual desire.
Alcohol may make you feel ready at first, but prolonged use reduces libido, lowers testosterone, and can cause erectile dysfunction. He recommended abstaining from alcohol as much as possible, especially in excess.
Environmental risks that can affect male fertility were also emphasised by Dr. Sefogah.
“So with all these. And avoid a lot of environmental exposures like the air pollution. We call it traffic or industrial emissions. You know, avoid exposure to them. And then the elephant in the room. The heavy metals from the galamsey.”
“We are worried about. They get into the system. Damage the ability of you to make normal sperm. Sperm become so badly abnormal. They cannot fertilize the egg. Or they manage to fertilize the egg. The pregnancy form is abnormal. The baby comes with abnormalities. If it stays the term at all,” Dr Sefogah reiterated.
He emphasised how modern behaviours can have a detrimental effect on reproductive health while offering helpful advice for naturally increasing male fertility through nutrition and lifestyle.
Dr. Sefogah advised reducing processed food intake and maintaining a natural, healthful diet.
He clarified that whole grains and vegetables should be the main components of a healthy diet.
Since yolks are high in cholesterol, eggs without yolks are better.
He also emphasised the health advantages of ginger and the importance of nuts, particularly tiger nuts, which are particularly potent to the locals.
Dr. Sefogah suggested eating a healthy weight and concentrating on fruits, vegetables, and nuts to maintain general health.
He underlined that regular exercise not only raises testosterone levels but also improves general health and lowers the risk of hypertension and diabetes.
In order to maintain male fertility and guarantee successful reproductive outcomes, Dr. Sefogah’s cautions highlight how crucial it is to abstain from alcohol and environmental contaminants while embracing a natural diet and way of life.
