Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, national chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned why members of his party disparage independent presidential candidate Alan Kyerematen for the 2024 election.

Alan Kyerematen and individuals like Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, in the opinion of the National Chairman of the NDC, shouldn’t be attacked or disparaged because they are engaged in a struggle for Ghana’s secure future.

“I’ve heard some of our members insulting people like Alan Kyerematen and others like him,” he stated.

Alan is “helping Ghana get rid of a dictator and the dictator’s party,” he continued. This despot is passing himself off as a democrat. using government agencies to stifle dissenting voices. Therefore, Alan is actually assisting Ghana, Asiedu Nketiah stated.

For Asiedu Nketia, attacking Alan Kyerematen was pointless since “shooting some birds is a waste of bullet,” he continued.

The NPP is fighting an uphill battle to be re-elected in the 2024 presidential election as a result of Alan Kyerematen’s departure. Both the party’s handling of the economy and a string of corruption scandals have drawn criticism.

Popular in Ghana, Kyerematen is considered by many to be a potential rival to the two major parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP. He will have to overcome a lot of obstacles in order to win the presidency, such as the difficulty of organizing a national campaign without the backing of a significant political party.

Whether Kyerematen’s resignation will cause other prominent NPP members to defect from the party is an open question. If true, it might make the NPP’s chances of being reelected in 2024 much worse.
