The first defendant in the ongoing ambulance trial, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has filed a motion for a mistrial.

He brought up recent events including a phone call between Attorney-General Godfred Dame and Mr. Jakpa that was leaked.

Dr. Ato Forson expressed worries about the leaked tape in his affidavit, which was filed on Friday, May 31. According to Forson, the tape shows professional wrongdoing on the AG’s behalf.

These recordings are attached to the filed application and have been submitted.

In the sake of justice, Dr. Ato Forson is pleading with the court to declare a mistrial, highlighting the significance of ensuring that justice is not only carried out but also that it is viewed as fair and unbiased.

The Minority Leader contends that if a mistrial is not ordered in these circumstances—where the Attorney-General seems to be acting with obvious disdain for the law and ethical norms of prosecution—public faith in the legal system could be seriously damaged.

During cross-examination, Richard Jakpa disclosed that he had been contacted by the Attorney General at odd hours to provide testimony against Dr. Ato Forson, the Minority Leader.

Ghanaians have been talking about this news, and some have even called on Attorney General Godfred Dame to quit.

The current minority leader and former deputy finance minister, Dr. Ato Forson, is on trial for allegedly having a hand in Ghana’s purchase of faulty ambulances.

The Attorney General and Jakpa are purportedly speaking on a 16-minute audio that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) aired during a press conference.

The assertions stated in the audio have been denied by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which alleges it has been “doctored and manipulated” with malevolent purpose.
