According to minority leader Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng galamsey report would be the subject of a bipartisan investigation.

He stated that the Minority caucus supports calls for an independent investigation and that they will start one as soon as Parliament meets again.

He gave the assurance that his party will work on the issue in the best interests of Ghanaians.

During a one-day House session on Tuesday, May 2, the leader made the decision in an interview.

Dr. Ato Forson’s plea for a public investigation into the damning galamsey report, which names some officials of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), is in line with similar requests made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“A vast majority of our citizens have urged this House to institute a bipartisan probe into this serious matter,” he stated.

“The Minority backs this request. We will act accordingly to start the procedures needed for an impartial investigation into this incident.

The Minority will soon begin a procedure to establish an impartial investigation into Prof. Frimpong-Boateng’s report, he continued.

The report on illicit mining (galamsey) operations was written by Prof. Frimpong-Boateng, the outgoing chairman of the disbanded Inter-Ministerial Committee on illicit Mining (IMCIM), and it was then delivered to the Chief of Staff.

He charged certain public servants with interfering with his work or indulging in graft.

In April 2023, the study was subsequently leaked into the public realm.
