Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, claims new polling data shows that the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) next presidential primary will be significantly more competitive than the party’s 2023 battle.
Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia won the 2023 primary with a decisive margin of 61.47%, followed by Kennedy Ohene Agyapong with 37.4%.
However, appearing on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, December 27, ahead of the party’s January 31, 2026, primary, Mr Dankwah stated that the most recent study suggests a much closer contest.
According to Global InfoAnalytics’ December survey, Dr. Bawumia remains in command of the race, closing in on 50% as the battle approaches.
Dr. Bawumia leads the “likely voters” poll with 45%, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 31%. Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum and Kwabena Agyapong had very little support, while Bryan Acheampong received three percent.
Despite Bawumia’s lead, the poll showed that a sizable portion of delegates were unsure, with 20% either unwilling to divulge their decision or still uncertain.
Approximately 3,000 delegates were randomly selected for the survey using computer-assisted telephone interviews.
Additionally, it revealed that Dr. Bawumia improved his standing by two percentage points, getting closer to the winning criterion, whereas Kennedy Agyapong had gained 13 percentage points since November.
