Divine Ikubor, better known by his stage name Rema, is a Nigerian Afrobeats musician who has shared his pre-show rituals.
Rema disclosed that he smokes cigarettes, consumes wine, and prays before performing on stage in an interview with Dazed during Milan Fashion Week, where he walked the runway for Diesel.
In order to ensure that the necessary procedures are in place for a successful performance, he continued, he also performs sound checks with his crew.
When asked about his pre-show routine, he replied, “A little Tequila, a little cigarette, pray, tap in with the team, and make sure everything is on cue.”
Rema emphasised that “performing has a lot to do with your breathwork and you have to keep the crowd going,” which makes performing more stressful than walking the runway.
“I have been listening to a lot of Sudanese cultural live music,” Rema stated when asked what music has been motivating him recently.
He acknowledged that his “biggest vice” is smoking cigarettes.
