Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Minister for Health, has announced a cash support package of GHC 50,000 for Mrs. Naomi Oyo Ohene-Oti, a Ghanaian oncology nurse who is the recent recipient of the 2025 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.
Mrs. Ohene-Oti, the victor of the esteemed international award due to her remarkable contributions to cancer care, has bestowed her accolade upon the Ministry of Health.
On behalf of the government and citizens of Ghana, the Minister extended congratulations to her for her dedication, compassion, and professional excellence that have placed the country on the global map.

The Hon. Akandoh emphasized that Mrs. Ohene-Oti’s accomplishment serves not only as a personal victory but also as a testament to the dedication of Ghanaian nurses who persist in fulfilling essential duties throughout the health system, particularly in underprivileged regions.
He stressed that nurses are fundamental to healthcare delivery, frequently serving in communities without doctors, and affirmed the government’s commitment to their well-being.
The Minister revealed that, in order to lessen the financial burden on students, fees for nursing training schools have been reduced by nearly 50% compared to the previous year.
He stated that allowances for nursing trainees are being disbursed and that the government is working on transforming certain training institutions into degree-awarding entities.
The Minister praised Mrs. Ohene-Oti for elevating Ghana’s profile and expressed hope that her acknowledgment will motivate other health professionals, such as doctors, pharmacists, and nurses, to pursue global excellence.
“Your achievement is Ghana’s achievement. Today, we are proud of you, and this support package is not just from me but from the Ministry of Health and the people of Ghana who stand behind you,” he stated.
He also urged the public, regulators, unions, and health training institutions to work closely with the government to create a stronger and more resilient health sector.

“Wisdom is not in one person’s head. Together, we can make Ghana’s healthcare system one of the best on the continent,” he stressed.
The Minister has vowed to keep acknowledging and aiding health workers whose efforts enhance healthcare delivery and elevate Ghana’s profile internationally.
