Minister for Sport and Recreation Kofi Adams has said that Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz may be offered a contract extension following the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 73-year-old was appointed in April after Otto Addo was fired in March due to Ghana’s successive losses to Germany and Austria.

At the current World Cup, Queiroz has had a successful start to his stay with the four-time African champions, leading the squad to a draw against England and a triumph over Panama in their first two Group L matches.

Adams acknowledged the public’s rising enthusiasm for the Portuguese tactician in an interview with Citi Sports, but he stressed that Ghana’s World Cup campaign is the government’s top priority.

“Well, surely it’s something that we will be looking at, and if you listen to many persons across the country, even before the ministry spoke or even the FA said anything, Ghanaians are already giving the indication that we should keep him for some time,” he said.

“But let’s finish this project. We have the World Cup project ahead of us.”

“Let’s finish this and, like we said before we came here, that when we finish this project, we can then make decisions about the future of anybody,” Adams continued.

After two games, the Black Stars have qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32.

At the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Saturday, Queiroz and his team will play Croatia to wrap up their group stage campaign. There is still a chance to advance to the knockout stage.
