The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has issued a warning to offenders who are still at large: they will be apprehended, detained, and charged with the same crimes as those who are currently in custody.

He emphasized that only death could prevent the police from apprehending people or groups who already have or plan to tamper with Ghana’s stability in his remarks to the media on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, about police preparation to protect the country’s peace before, during, and after the upcoming elections.

According to him, this was a part of his team’s dedication to fully putting into practice “a master blueprint that has come to mainstream election security in this country for the first time.” This blueprint has so far guaranteed peace in numerous elections at the by and district levels and will now be applied to the next national elections.

“The instances of pockets of selected violence have been dealt with mercilessly in accordance with law, where we go after the people involved, get them arrested and put them before the court.” Dr. Dampare stated.

“There are a few of them still out there, but we have not stopped looking for them, and they know. They should know this: How long can you run, for how long can you hide? We will not forget you. If we forget you, we give you the opportunity to come back and do the things you do again.”

“So as long as we’ve booked you in our records as somebody we’re looking for, we’ll pursue you until we find you. The only thing that will stop us from pursuing you is maybe if [you] pass on, and that is the end of the game. Until that, the caution is that we know whom we’re looking for within the pocket of incidents that have happened. The few we have not arrested, we’ll come for you, and you’ll know that really we’ve come for you,” the IGP emphasised.

“We’ll not allow anybody, be it individual or a group, to disturb the peace of this country because we don’t have a second Ghana, we have only one Ghana.” he added.
