The Ministry of Interior has implemented a new plan to prevent highway robbery, using armoured buses disguised as conventional commercial transport vehicles on important roadways throughout the country.

Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak disclosed that the specially outfitted buses are being branded as well-known transportation companies like VIP, STC, and OA to assist security agencies in identifying and apprehending criminals operating on highways during a town hall meeting on Saturday in Damongo, Savannah Region

“We have acquired armoured buses, and these armoured buses have been doing a wonderful thing on most of our long stretch roads because we keep branding them differently, today we brand them as STC, the next day we brand them as VIP, another day we brand them as OA, just to make sure that we get the perpetrators,” he stated.

He pointed out that bad road conditions make cars more susceptible to attacks, which frequently leads to highway robbery events.

Additionally, Mr. Agbodza discussed issues pertaining to road building projects under the government’s Big Push initiative.

He revealed that among the initiative’s lowest performers are contractors operating on the Wa–Wiawso corridor, which runs through portions of the Savannah Region.

He urged contractors who had given up on projects to come back and finish the job.

President John Dramani Mahama’s “Resetting Ghana” trip, which aims to inform the public on government initiatives and development priorities, included the event.

On behalf of the Yagbonwura, Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Savannah Regional House of Chiefs raised many issues throughout the event through its Registrar, S. A. Issah.

Persistent water shortages in Damongo, inadequate road systems, delays in the regional hospital project, the need for more districts, the construction of a university in the area, and the hiring of Gonja language instructors were among the concerns brought up.
