The Attorney General (AG) has been tasked with prosecuting the management of the Ghana School of Law (GSL), putting the institution under legal scrutiny.
The AG has been notified about suspected procurement violations by the GSL management.
The organization allegedly avoided the sole sourcing procurement process and purchased a variety of products and services without getting the necessary board clearance, according to an Auditor General’s report.
These violations were discovered by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) during its meeting on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, and they were immediately forwarded to the Attorney General for additional inquiry and possible legal action.
During the committee’s proceedings, Tano North MP Freda Prempeh emphasized how serious the issue was.
In response, Yusuf Osman, the General Legal Council’s (GLC) Acting Chief Accountant, acknowledged the procurement process’s infraction while making an effort to make things more clear.
“The auditors noticed that payments for the procurement of various goods and services did not obtain approval from the board, neither did they go through the three different sources,” she explained.
“The suppliers were registered suppliers of the Ghana School of Law, and we had regularly engaged them in a number of transactions, at which point we complied with all the relevant procedures. “
“Except in this instance, those additional invoices at the time of auditing were not attached to those transactions, we admit,” Mr. Osman replied.
