The New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries are scheduled for January 27, 2024, although five NPP incumbent members of parliament in the Ashanti Region will not participate.

The majority leader and MP for Suame, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu, the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who also serves as the MP for Bekwai, Joseph Osei-Wusu, and the lawmakers representing Oforikrom, Ahafo Ano South East, and Kwabre East constituencies did not submit their nominations to take part in the primaries.

With the New Patriotic Party controlling the bulk of these seats, the Ashanti Region takes pride in being the region with the most number of lawmakers.

The ruling NPP is in charge of 43 of the 47 seats.

Many of the current lawmakers in the area are submitting nominations to save their seats as the NPP parliamentary primaries approach.

Following their bitter primary battle in 2020, Vincent Ekow Assafuah is running against Dr. Serwaa Donkor in the Old Tafo Constituency.

She is running to represent the constituency as the first female MP.

Dr. Donkor is certain that the moment has come for her to help the residents of Old Tafo and Pankrono after finishing second in the 2020 parliamentary primary against the incumbent MP.

“The people here are dealing with a wide range of issues. She underlined, “I want to give the people of Tafo-Pankrono my leadership skills because I understand development and leadership.”

After running twice for the NPP’s parliamentary seat, Vincent Frimpong Manu is running for the Kwadaso seat a third time.

He is engaged in a tough race against Kingsley Nyarko, the sitting MP.

If the sitting Member had done a good job, I wouldn’t be running against him. Though many of the visitors are contestants, they are not actual Kwadaso natives. To bring about the transformation that the people need, we need a true resident who was born and raised here. “I am the one,” he declared.

There would be fierce battle in the Bantama constituency between Raphael Agyapong and the current MP, Francis Asenso Boakye.

“The public will vote based on my accomplishments in the constituency, which they have witnessed. Francis Asenso teasingly said, “The person contesting me is no match at all.

“I am aware that some believe President Akufo-Addo and Kennedy Agyapong would be in a true competition. However, I am confident that I will emerge victorious in the end,” Raphael Agyapong remarked.

Five candidates are running for the Kwabre East Constituency seat after Francisca Oteng Mensah, the sitting MP, announced her plan to step down.

Patrick Amoako Kufour, though, feels confident of winning.

The former organizer and the constituency’s municipal chief executive will vigorously challenge him.

Nominations are only filed as the initial stage in the process. But in order to guarantee their parliamentary candidacies on January 27, 2024, the candidates must now gain the confidence and support of the delegates.
