The governing councils for four important institutions have been established by the Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu.
Each institution has a strategic mandate to promote national development via innovation, sustainability, and education.
University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR) – Sunyani
The council was charged by the minister with making sure that the Bono and Ahafo regions received high-quality, pertinent education.
He also said that SIC and the Ministry would collaborate to construct dorms for students as part of a CSR project. A GH₵10 million seed money will help UENR expand its academic capabilities and facilities.

Bolgatanga Technical University (BTU)
Hon. Iddrisu, who acknowledged the university’s contribution to agricultural innovation, urged it to support environmentally friendly farming methods that benefit the community at large.
A US$5 million Italian grant that aims to improve TVET in Ghana will be partially awarded to the university.
Koforidua Technical University- (KTU)
Given that science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education is essential to Ghana’s future, the KTU has been asked to increase its emphasis on STEM programs in order to spur industry innovation.
Additionally, KTU is the recipient of a US$5 million grant from the Italian government to update technical education.
University of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD) – Somanya.
Hon. Iddrisu tasked the UESD with spearheading environmental research and sustainable development, positioning the university as a green one.
As climate action gains pace worldwide, UESD is anticipated to emerge as Ghana’s environmental management hub. Additionally, it gets GH₵10 million in startup money to expand its work.
These initiatives are a part of the government’s larger plan to increase access, upgrade facilities, and match higher education with the objectives of national development.
