On Thursday, April 2, 2026, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, conducted a follow-up wellness visit to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, where the family has been receiving medical and psychological care, following her intervention in a distressing case in Bulemi within the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, where a woman was allegedly preparing meals for her children using unsafe and unhygienic substances.

The visit is a component of the Minister’s efforts to guarantee that families and vulnerable individuals receive the assistance, care, and protection they require.

The Minister interacted with the woman when she was in the hospital and saw how she had improved under medical and psychological care after being there.

Additionally, the Minister spent time talking reassuringly with the woman’s two sons.

As a result of the care they are receiving, the boys exhibited optimistic signs of progress.

In an effort to provide a secure and supportive future for the kids, the Minister also spoke with their father, who was in attendance.

In addition to the immediate family, the minister spoke with other patients and offered words of support.

During the visit, the Minister gave the woman and her two children personal necessities and relief supplies.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Kwadzo Marfo Obeng, Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, praised the Minister for her prompt action and ongoing participation.

In order to properly manage cases, he underlined the significance of early intervention, ongoing treatment, and strong collaboration between medical professionals and social services.

Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey reaffirmed the government’s dedication to safeguarding vulnerable individuals and making sure that no one is excluded from receiving care and social protection services.

The Minister also took advantage of the occasion to interact with hospital Social Welfare Unit officials, emphasising the necessity of coordinated social support networks to assist impacted persons and families in rebuilding their lives outside of institutional care.

She added that in order to better identify and support vulnerable people in institutional settings, like those at the Accra Psychiatry Hospital, the Ministry is actively looking for ways to improve social protection systems, including the continuous evaluation and expansion of the LEAP program.

The focus is on making sure that no one’s circumstances prevent them from receiving necessary social interventions.

Behind the scenes, the Minister is taking meticulous measures to ensure that the children have a stable and supportive future. These measures include plans to help them reintegrate into a safe home environment and resume their education, as well as continuous monitoring and psychosocial support.
