Ghana and Japan are working together on a project that will help Ghana satisfy a demand by stabilizing the power supply in the Eastern Corridor of Ghana, which includes Tamale, Yendi, and a number of other cities and villages in the area.

Based on the aforementioned, on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Ministry, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and H.E. Hiroshi Yoshimoto, Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, held a signing ceremony.

On behalf of the Ghanaian people, Hon. Ablakwa thanked the Japanese government during the ceremony.

He explained the friendly ties between Ghana and Japan, including the aid and various forms of development support that Japan provides to Ghana. He praised Hideyo Noguchi, who “paid the ultimate price” out of love for Ghana and died while studying yellow fever there.

According to the Minister, the country’s Eastern Corridor’s brittle power infrastructure makes it challenging for the Northern Electricity Company to provide electricity to the populace.

He agreed that the initiative will contribute to the Eastern Corridor’s improved energy condition.

In his remarks, H.E. Yoshimoto stated that sharing the signing ceremony with Ghana was the best way to commemorate the milestone, as it was his first significant signing after taking office in December 2024.

He reiterated Japan’s commitment to helping meet the energy demands of the Eastern Corridor and commended Hon. Ablakwa for his commitment to further enhancing ties between Ghana and Japan.

All things considered, both parties agreed that this relationship represents a new phase in Ghana-Japan relations and demonstrates a shared dedication to strengthening cooperation in a variety of fields.
