The Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association of Ghana has appealed to government and relevant state institutions to urgently intervene in the continued destruction of cocoa farms across the country.
The association says the situation is threatening the livelihoods of thousands of cocoa farmers and their families and could have serious implications for Ghana’s agricultural sector and national economy.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 14, 2026, and signed by the National President of the Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association of Ghana, Farmer General Nana Oboadie Boateng Bonsu II, the association stressed the importance of cocoa farming to Ghana.
According to the association, cocoa remains one of the major pillars of Ghana’s economy, providing income and employment for millions of people across cocoa-growing communities.
It warned that the continued destruction of cocoa farms was resulting in significant economic losses for farmers while threatening the sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
The association said: “The continued destruction of our farms is causing severe loss of livelihood and poses a threat to our national interest.”
Cocoa Farmers Call for Government Intervention
The Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association said several petitions, public appeals and engagements have already been made concerning the destruction of cocoa farms, but it is yet to see the decisive action needed to address the situation.
The group has therefore renewed its call on the Government of Ghana, COCOBOD, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), and security agencies to urgently take steps to protect cocoa farms across the country.
The association believes stronger intervention is necessary to safeguard the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and protect Ghana’s important cocoa-producing sector.
Farmers Urged to Remain Law-Abiding
The association has also urged cocoa farmers to remain calm and law-abiding while remaining vigilant in protecting their farms.
It reminded farmers that Ghanaian law provides avenues for citizens to lawfully protect their property.
However, the association stressed that farmers must avoid taking the law into their own hands.
Instead, it encouraged cocoa farmers to adopt peaceful and lawful measures, including establishing community watch groups, recording evidence of any alleged destruction, and promptly reporting cases of trespass or damage.
Farmers were also encouraged to report such incidents to the Ghana Police Service, traditional authorities and COCOBOD for the appropriate action to be taken.
Association Pledges Peaceful Engagement
The Concerned Cocoa Farmers Association of Ghana said it remains committed to dialogue and peaceful engagement with government and other relevant stakeholders.
The association emphasised that it has no intention of encouraging farmers to resort to unlawful action in response to the destruction of their cocoa farms.
It expressed hope that its latest appeal would receive the urgent attention of the government and relevant authorities to help protect Ghana’s cocoa farms, farmers’ livelihoods and the future of the cocoa industry.
