The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has intervened in a controversy over an alleged plan to demolish a school facility in the Ahafo Ano South West District to make way for the construction of a 24-hour market.
The Minister’s intervention follows the circulation of a viral video on social media claiming that the school was scheduled to be demolished as part of the proposed market development.
In response to the concerns raised, Dr. Amoakohene has directed the District Assembly to immediately suspend all activities related to the project.
The Ashanti Regional Minister has also summoned the relevant stakeholders to his office for a comprehensive review of the proposed development and the circumstances surrounding the reported school demolition plan.
Dr. Amoakohene assured the public that the school facility at the centre of the controversy has not been demolished.
He said the government remains committed to addressing concerns surrounding development projects while ensuring that the interests of communities and access to education are properly considered.
The Minister’s intervention is expected to bring clarity to the controversy as authorities assess the proposed 24-hour market project in the Ahafo Ano South West District.
