The President of Ghana has appointed Dr. Abdul-Baasit Aziz-Bamba as the Acting Director-General of the Value for Money Office, in a move aimed at strengthening accountability and oversight of government spending.
The appointment was made in line with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana and Section 14(1) of the Value for Money Office Act, 2026 (Act 1172).
Dr. Aziz-Bamba will serve in an acting capacity pending the receipt of the constitutionally required advice from the Governing Board of the Value for Money Office, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
The newly appointed Acting Director-General is a Harvard-trained lawyer and an academic who previously served as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana School of Law.
The Value for Money Office is responsible for ensuring that public funds are used efficiently and that government expenditure delivers meaningful benefits to citizens. The office is expected to play a key role in promoting financial accountability, transparency and responsible management of public resources.
Dr. Aziz-Bamba’s appointment is expected to accelerate the operationalisation of the Value for Money Office while strengthening the monitoring and scrutiny of public expenditure in Ghana.
The office will also focus on identifying waste, improving value for taxpayers’ money and ensuring that government projects and programmes provide tangible benefits to Ghanaians.
The appointment therefore represents a significant step in efforts to promote fiscal responsibility, efficient government spending and accountability in Ghana’s public sector.
