Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has taken the lead over National Democratic Congress (NDC) National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia in the party’s race to select its candidate for the 2028 presidential election.
The latest NDC Delegates Tracking Poll, released on September 14, 2026, by Global InfoAnalytics, shows Dr. Ato Forson leading among NDC delegates with 32% support.
His latest performance represents a significant increase from the 22% recorded in July 2026, giving him a 10-percentage-point rise in support.
Ato Forson gains ground among NDC delegates
The poll indicates that Dr. Ato Forson has made substantial gains in the NDC flagbearer contest in recent months.
By comparison, Johnson Asiedu Nketia’s support declined from 27% in July to 23% in September 2026, placing him second in the latest tracking poll.

Other NDC flagbearer contenders
Other prominent names in the NDC flagbearer race recorded significantly lower levels of support.
Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu polled at 5%, while former Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and former Vice-Presidential candidate Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang each recorded 4%.
Former University of Ghana Vice-Chancellor Professor Joshua Alabi received 2%, while Eric Opoku remained at 1%.
A significant 28% of delegates surveyed said they were still undecided, indicating that a considerable portion of the NDC electorate has yet to settle on a preferred candidate.
Ato Forson widens lead in head-to-head poll
The Finance Minister also performed strongly in a direct contest against Johnson Asiedu Nketia.
In the head-to-head matchup, Dr. Ato Forson secured 41% support, compared with 30% for Asiedu Nketia.
The poll recorded 29% undecided voters in the two-candidate scenario.
The figures indicate that Ato Forson’s advantage becomes wider when the contest is narrowed to the two leading contenders.
