Ghana is strengthening its commitment to an inclusive digital economy that enables every citizen, persons with disabilities, women entrepreneurs, rural businesses, and young traders, to fully participate in and benefit from digital trade and e-commerce.
In a speech delivered on her behalf at the capacity-building workshop on Inclusive E-Commerce and Digital Trade held on Tuesday, 11 August 2026 in Accra, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP), Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, stressed that Ghana’s digital transformation agenda must leave no group behind.
The Minister described the workshop as a key step toward building a digital economy that works for all Ghanaians—not only those with reliable internet access, digital devices, urban infrastructure, or advanced digital skills.
She highlighted that the government, working with UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office, UNDP, and UNCDF under the Joint SDG Fund, has spent the past two years developing Ghana’s National E-Commerce Strategy.
E-commerce is rapidly emerging as a central platform for modern trade. Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), farmers, entrepreneurs, and traders are increasingly expected to engage customers online and participate in digital marketplaces.
At the opening session, Martine Julsaint Kidane of UN Trade and Development emphasized the expanding role of e-commerce in boosting economic inclusion across Africa. Digital technologies are opening new pathways for entrepreneurship, innovation, trade, and job creation by helping businesses reach larger markets and integrate into regional and global value chains.
The workshop supports Ghana’s implementation of its National E-Commerce Strategy—a clear roadmap designed to create a stronger enabling environment for digital trade and ensure that e-commerce drives sustainable development and inclusive growth.
