UNICEF Ghana representatives met with Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, Minister of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, to renew their commitment to working together to advance Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) in Ghana.
The meeting’s main objectives included enhancing birth registration systems, investigating sustainable financing, enhancing cross-sector collaboration, and putting the recently approved ECCD policy into effect.
The Ministry’s actions were praised by UNICEF, which also promised to continue providing advocacy, capacity building, and technical assistance.

The delegation also backed a plan to eliminate registration costs for children under five and emphasized the potential of ECCD centers to increase birth registration rates.
The Minister promised UNICEF that the government would put policies and procedures in place that would demonstrate its strong commitment to enhancing early childhood care and development in Ghana.
The parties also agreed to evaluate birth registration procedures, improve community-based education, create a national ECCD implementation strategy, and gather resources for long-term effects.
