The Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) gave the National Anti-illegal Mining Operations
ecretariat (NAIMOS) a check for GHC 5 million and five brand-new Toyota Hilux pickup trucks today, which significantly bolstered the country’s fight against illicit mining.
The donation, which has been called a “game-changer,” is anticipated to improve mobility, fortify field operations, and finance vital interventions in Ghana’s mining communities.
Hon. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah (MP), Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, praised the donation at the brief ceremony, calling it evidence of the Gold Board’s dedication to ethical and sustainable mining.
According to him, the action shows GOLDBOD’s interest in making sure Ghana’s resources are mined in a way that preserves forests, rivers, and livelihoods in addition to its involvement in gold trade.

“This collaboration proves that GOLDBOD is serious about responsible sourcing. We are working with multiple ministries and agencies to track excavators, prosecute offenders, and restore devastated lands,” he continued.
The government has made significant investments in reclamation operations, but Hon. Buah disclosed that illicit activities have already destroyed more than 5,500 hectares of forest area.
He told the populace that the government is dedicated to making sure that every ounce of gold extracted in Ghana can be linked to a legitimate and accountable source, rather than opposing mining.
“Together, we will turn our waters blue, our forests green, and ensure that Ghana benefits fully from its mineral wealth,” he added.
Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the CEO of the Gold Board, clarified that the donation is in line with the organization’s mission to protect the nation’s natural resources while promoting national growth.
“Yes, we want gold,” he stated, “but we want gold that is mined and sourced responsibly. This enhances the nation’s reputation, preserves our environment, and protects future generations.”

While NAIMOS has been spearheading the fight against illicit mining in coordination with security authorities, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi pointed out that further resources are needed to build on its successes.
By establishing itself as a development partner and making direct investments in sustainable projects and government-led reforms like cooperative mining schemes and government reclamation efforts, he underlined that the Goldbod is committed to becoming more than just a regulator.
The symbolic presentation of the check and the car keys marked the end of the ceremony. Mr. Gyamfi and Hon. Buah both urged all parties involved, including chiefs, miners, and local authorities, to back the government’s initiatives and promised to continue working together.
