The late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament’s widow, Hajia Amina Adam, has officially said that she plans to run in the National Democratic Congress parliamentary primary in order to fill the position.
Currently serving as Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal has also announced his plan to run in the primary.
To choose the party’s candidate for the Ayawaso East Constituency parliamentary by-election scheduled for March 3, 2026, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will hold its parliamentary primary on February 7, 2026.
Hajia Amina Adam stated in a press release signed and released on January 22, 2026, that she made the decision to run for the party’s primary following discussions with constituents, party members, and community leaders.
She described the time following her husband’s death on January 4, 2026, as a time of personal sorrow for her and her kids, and stated the decision came after weeks of contemplation.
She claims that she received calls from a variety of constituency organisations, including youth organisations, elders, and grassroots people, asking her to take up the cause of her late husband, who served the constituency until his passing.
Hajia Amina Adam stated that she accepted the request after consulting with chiefs, imams, and other community leaders, as well as young people who pushed her to run for the NDC ticket.
She stated that she intended to continue her late husband’s public service career, particularly in issues impacting children, vulnerable people, and young people looking for work.
Hajia Amina Adam has called for assistance from party members and constituency people as the party prepares for its primary in East Ayawaso.
