The public has been reassured by Inspector-General of Police (IGP) COP Tetteh Yohonu that the police will make criminals’ lives difficult.
He made the promise at a press conference when he declared that four suspects had been taken into custody, including three members of a gang that was involved in a heist at Owhim Tigo Junction that resulted in one person being shot and killed.
In addition to expressing sympathy to the family of the deceased, the IGP praised the police units that participated in the operation and the members of the public who provided vital information.
According to him, the gang, which was headed by a deceased suspect named Eric Antwi Duku, was skilled at stealing pickups and Land Cruisers, especially those that were black and ash in colour, which they then sold to contacts at Paga.
The syndicate was linked to similar robberies in Tarkwa, Kumasi, and other Ashanti regions, according to the police investigation.
The strategy was locating and keeping an eye on the intended victims, pursuing them until they had a chance to attack, and firing if the victims fought.
The IGP called on the public to support police operations by sharing reliable information and reporting suspicious individuals and activities, and thanked the President for providing the police with the logistics they needed to respond to such operations.
The IGP warned offenders that the police will do everything in their power to find and apprehend them.
“We will pursue them, arrest them, and bring them to justice. That is a promise,” the IGP promised.
