Three individuals have been arrested by the Ghana Police Service on suspicion of being part of a ring that steals cell phones and other valuables from gullible people using taxi cabs.

Following an intelligence-led operation, the suspects—Sasu Lawrence, also known as Agbe, Richard Osei, and Charles Kofi Nti, also known as Survivor—were taken into custody on January 12, 2026.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspects primarily operate in the early hours of the day while pretending to be taxi drivers in order to find clients.

One suspect takes a seat in the back of the car, while the other two occupy the front seats.

Police investigations also showed that the perpetrators purposefully lock the doors when a victim, who is typically a woman, boards the cab to make it harder for her to get off. The suspect sitting in the back pretends to help while the victim tries to open the door, allegedly stealing the victim’s wallet or cell phone.

While efforts are being made to identify and apprehend those who receive and deal in the stolen goods, the suspects are now being held by the police to aid in investigations.
