Five people have been detained by the Ghana Police Service in relation to the brutal assault on a Kade Senior High Technical School (SHTS) teacher while the matter is being investigated.

The accused were reportedly transported from Accra to Kade as part of the ongoing investigation into the late-year assault before being apprehended on Monday, January 5, 2026.

Awoonor Yevu Godwin, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), confirmed the arrests and told Accra-based Citi FM that the suspects are scheduled to appear in court today, Wednesday, January 7.

He said that the Police Cyber Security Unit is in charge of the investigations, which he claimed demonstrates the Ghana Police Service’s resolve to hold those responsible for attacks on teachers accountable.

Michael Quayson, the victim, was allegedly attacked on his way home on October 5, 2025, between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.

Family relatives claim that a gang of roughly eight people, including both current and past Kade SHTS students, ambushed him close to his home. After family members interfered, the perpetrators allegedly ran away.

Later, a video of the attack appeared online and became viral on social media.

According to preliminary evidence, Mr. Quayson might have been singled out because of his involvement in overseeing the most recent WASSCE exams and his harsh enforcement of discipline.

Teachers in the Kwaebibirem Municipality were more concerned about their safety after only one pupil had been arrested and then released on bond before to the most recent arrests.

In response, the government, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Police Service have been urged to bolster security measures to safeguard educators by the Quayson family and a number of teacher unions.

They maintain that the five suspects’ prosecution is an essential step towards justice and a preventative measure against the rising number of violent crimes that target educators nationwide.
