In her new book, “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson,” Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson claims that multi-award-winning rapper Sarkodie allegedly pregnant her in 2010 but refused to accept responsibility.

She describes in the book why she decided to end the pregnancy—the rapper’s refusal to take responsibility.

She said that the rapper said he had a different girlfriend.

In Chapter 8 of the book, which was published on June 18, 2023, at the Peduase Lodge, Yvonne describes how she attempted to end the pregnancy by ingesting a friend’s concoction.

“I had gone for a pregnancy test to confirm what becomes the obvious conclusion for a sexually active young woman who missed her monthly flow. I was in the company of Karen. And when the test result was ready, I wasn’t strong enough to open it. She did and declared the verdict.”

“On an ordinary day, I would have laughed out loud and that would trigger a string of jolly conversations and jokes. But this was no laughing matter. It was a grim piece of information that was capable of turning my world upside down. I wasn’t the only one responsible for the situation, so I called the man whose potent seed had germinated in me. His name is Michael Owusu Addo, a renowned Ghanaian musician who is better known as Sarkodie,” she further states in the book.

“Sarkodie was a budding musician with the potential to become one of the biggest artists in Ghana and beyond,” the actress claimed. But at the moment, the future seemed uncertain, and he couldn’t yet see a clear path through the maze of existence. Failure was not assured. He was still living with his mother and wasn’t ready to take on additional responsibilities at that time.

Despite this, Yvonne suggests that their relationship wasn’t serious.

“I wouldn’t describe the friendship that had grown between us as serious. I was drawn to those who worked in the music business. For the majority of my life, music served as my escape from all the awful things that life had to offer. I appreciated his talent, then. As we conversed, our proximity increased. Closer.”

The incident, which occurred when Yvonne Nelson was 25 and just as her acting career was about to take off seriously, Yvonne Nelson mentions, disrupted humanitarian endeavors she had started as well as other prospects she had in Nigeria.

“Having an abortion is one of the most regrettable mistakes in life. If the clock of time could be rewound to my younger self, I would keep it. But the benefit of hindsight is something not useful because the lessons learned cannot be applied retrospectively,” the book captures.

In ‘I Am Not Yvonne Nelson’, the actress gives an account of her struggles as a young woman on a journey to discover herself.
