Effective Tuesday, November 21, 2023, a curfew has been imposed on Nkwanta Township in the Oti Region from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. by the Oti Regional Security Council Executive Instrument and Minister of the Interior, Ambrose Dery.
The government reaffirmed in a press release dated November 21, 2023, that the punishment is a process to settle disagreements and conflicts that arise in the township.
Two more victims of the Nkwanta shooting have been officially ruled dead, according to Oti Regional Minister Joshua Mukubu’s statement on Tuesday.
After a new shooting incident at Nkwanta South early on Tuesday morning, where armed attackers opened fire on civilians at the Nkwanta Central Market, the number of deaths to far has risen to eight.
“When we spoke in the afternoon, the number was six, but this evening, my police commander after going round to convey the bodies said the number stands at eight,” he said in an interview on Joy FM on Tuesday, November 21.
“Meanwhile, the Government would like to reiterate that, there is a ban on all persons in Nkwanta Township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition or any offensive weapons and any persons found with any arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted,” The release stated.
