Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team condemned Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, a fellow New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, for what it claims are false, ignorant, and unjustified personal assaults.

The Bawumia team expressed concern in a statement signed by Nana Akomeah, Chairman of Campaign Communications, regarding a recent video that went viral on social media in which Mr. Agyapong purportedly accused Dr. Bawumia of making disparaging remarks regarding the health of the late Mr. Albert Adu Boahen, a founding member of the NPP.

The campaign additionally asserts that Hon. Kennedy Agyapong stated that Dr. Bawumia had implied that Mr. Adu Boahen had declined to run in the 1996 NPP presidential primary for health concerns, a claim the campaign maintains is wholly untrue.

“For absolute clarity, Dr. Bawumia has never made the statements that have been attributed to him,” the statement said.

Additionally, the campaign objected to remarks made by Hon. Agyapong that purportedly called the Vice President a liar and questioned his leadership abilities.

“We ask Hon. Kennedy Agyapong to produce the video or audio evidence without further delay if he stands by this baseless attack,” Nana Akomeah said.

The campaign emphasised the importance of responsible political participation and cautioned that false statements could mislead the public and exacerbate internal conflicts within the ruling party.

According to the statement, “In our political discourse, accuracy matters. Words also matter. Wrongful attributions have the potential to unnecessarily mislead the public and inflame tensions within our Party.”

The Bawumia Campaign urged all candidates to maintain decorum as the NPP prepares for its presidential primary and demanded that Mr. Agyapong immediately apologise to the former vice president.

The statement emphasised that “Dr. Bawumia believes that as leaders, we must always state our views devoid of tantrums and personal insults while maintaining truthfulness, decorum, and restraint at all times.”

The most recent discussion focusses on the escalating hostilities amongst candidates in front of the NPP’s pivotal internal competition to choose a flagbearer for the upcoming general election.
