Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) as Kojo “Bamba”, has emerged as the party’s First National Vice Chairman after securing a surprise victory at the NPP’s 2026 National Delegates Conference.
Kojo Bamba, who hails from Asafo in Kumasi, is an auto mechanic who became involved in partisan politics and was popularly associated with the role of a “machoman” within the party.
His victory came as a surprise to many political observers after he defeated 12 other candidates in the highly contested NPP National Executive elections.
Among those who contested the position were Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hameed, Nana Akomea, Samuel Pyne, George Kwabena Abankwah Yeboah, Richard Ahiagba, Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Richard Oti Aboagye, Abena Pokua Boaitey Amoah, Yaa Amponsah Frimpong, Henry Nana Boakye, Horma Miez and Bright Esselfie Kumi.
Kojo Bamba Wins NPP First Vice Chairman Position
Kojo Bamba secured 3,116 votes to become the First National Vice Chairman of the NPP.
He narrowly defeated former National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, who polled 3,061 votes, while former NPP Communications Director and former STC Managing Director Nana Akomea placed third with 2,987 votes.
The results meant that Kojo Fosu Boadu, Henry Nana Boakye and Nana Akomea secured the three vice-chairmanship positions allocated to the top three candidates.
With the newly elected National Chairman, John Boadu, assuming the chairmanship of the party, Kojo Bamba will play a key role in the new NPP national leadership structure.
Kojo Bamba’s Campaign Strategy
Before the election, Kojo Bamba was not widely considered among the leading contenders for the NPP First National Vice Chairman position.
Several opinion polls and projections placed other candidates ahead of him. However, Bamba adopted a straightforward campaign strategy that focused heavily on his identity as a grassroots party activist.
He urged delegates to elect two educated or elite candidates while choosing him as the party’s grassroots “machoman” who would protect party members and their votes during elections.
He also consistently reminded delegates that he was number two on the ballot paper and used the campaign message that the NPP would return to power in 2028.
Kojo Bamba and the Delta Forces Controversy
Kojo Bamba first gained widespread national attention in 2017 when he was associated with the Delta Forces, a vigilante group linked to the NPP.
On March 23, 2017, members of the group stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council offices and forcibly removed an appointed Regional Security Liaison Officer from his office.
The incident attracted significant public attention and led to Kojo Bamba being arrested by the police and prosecuted over the incident.
Following the court proceedings and reprimand, Bamba largely stayed away from the national spotlight, although he was occasionally seen within the security detail of the NPP.
Kojo Bamba Returns to NPP National Politics
In 2026, Kojo Bamba returned to the political spotlight after declaring his intention to contest the NPP First National Vice Chairman position.
He entered the race alongside 12 other candidates in an election that attracted significant attention as the NPP sought to elect its national executives for the next four-year term.
When the Electoral Commission announced the results, Kojo Fosu Boadu emerged as the winner with 3,116 votes.
