Justice has been served for three orphans whose father passed away at the Duayaw Nkwanta Police Station.
Their uncle, who lives in Accra, stole their father’s pension claim and kept it for himself, leaving them with less than 5%.
Businessman Kwame Tengey stole GH¢304,950 from his late brother’s employer, the Ghana Police Service, and refused to provide it to the late policeman’s three children.
The three orphans, named Richard Tengey, a student, Phyllis Tengey, an unemployed person, and Terrence Tengey, a hotel employee, claimed their uncle did not disclose to them the entire sum received, only that Ghs 10,000 was what was owed to them.
Kwame Tengey acknowledged receiving the money upon his detention. He said he transferred the remaining funds to a person named Anyame in the United Kingdom and utilized a portion of the funds to remodel their Sogakope family home.
Following a thorough trial, the court chaired by Mrs. Evelyn Asamoah convicted Kwame Tengey guilty of fraudulent breach of trust and sentenced him to four years of hard labor.
Inspector Patrick Tengey’s younger brother Kwame Tengey promised his brother’s three children that he could help them get their father’s GH¢304,950 claim.
According to a copy of the payout form for the late police officer’s pension, each beneficiary was entitled to GH¢68,737.55, with an additional GH¢30,000 set aside for Richard Tengey, whose father passed away in 2019 while he was still a juvenile.
