After a portion of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue in the Central Business District (CBD) was recently closed for urgent maintenance, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, the mayor of Accra, has inspected the finished repairs.
On Tuesday, the Mayor told reporters during a working visit to the location that the intervention was required because, when conducting his regular decongestion exercises around the city, he noticed significant degradation of the road surface.
He clarified that along one of the main thoroughfares in the capital, the section had developed large potholes, posed safety risks, and delayed traffic flow.

“I discovered during my usual visits that this section had developed potholes, so we took the decision to quickly smoothen the surface to ease traffic congestion on the stretch,” he stated.
The Mayor states that the Assembly also used the repair time to complete other projects aimed at enhancing local safety and cleanliness.
He stated that these include replacing stolen concrete slabs covering the drains with temporary wooden ones to safeguard drivers and pedestrians, as well as desilting clogged drains to prevent flooding.
In order to further improve the road’s endurance and look, he stated that the Assembly was getting ready to place pavement blocks after the major resurfacing work was successfully finished.
The Roads Department and all the teams involved were complimented by the Mayor for their hard work in restoring the road to a safer and more driveable state within the allotted period.
As the Assembly continues to work to preserve vital municipal infrastructure and enhance conditions around Accra, he urged drivers and merchants to work together.
